High court’s have record 2.52 lakh cases pending for over 20 years

The 25 high courts in the country have a record 2.52 lakh cases pending for more than 20 years (as of August 27). Retired Chief Justice of India N V Ramana’s efforts in appointing record 220 judges in these HCs during his 16-month tenure did not, however, have much impact on the disposal rate, which are at an all-time low.
